Why ScootHero?
ScootHero was founded in 2021 with the mission of becoming Southern Africa’s leader in two-wheel electric mobility. Our aim is to build an extensive e-mobility platform that powers how people and logistics move — starting with electric motorbikes and a universal charging/swap network.
We’re already working with top last-mile delivery providers to electrify their fleets and enable cleaner, cheaper transport for hundreds of daily trips. With strong conviction from partners in the value of our product we’re positioned to become a leading player in this emerging sector.
Johannesburg
Regional Operations Manager
August 2025
We’re hiring our first Regional Operations Manager to own ScootHero’s operations in Johannesburg and drive the rollout of our electric fleet and battery swap infrastructure. You’ll take ownership of local deployments, ensure everything runs smoothly on the ground, and help shape how ScootHero scales in the region. With active deployments in Cape Town, we are now expanding to Johannesburg and seeking a hands-on, high-accountability Regional Operations Manager to lead this critical market. This is a role that combines client engagement with strategic operations, so it requires strong people skills combined with a solid understanding of business financials.
This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who can balance strategy and execution, work independently, and take full accountability for making things happen.
Start date: As early as September 2025
Reporting: Reports to the COO
Fixed Salary: Market related
Location: Johannesburg, South Africa
Hardware Deployment & Field Operations
- Oversee the deployment of electric delivery bikes and battery swap stations in Johannesburg
- Serve as the primary point of accountability for day-to-day regional operations, from bike delivery and driver onboarding to energy access and support
- Coordinate site setup, vehicle placement, and asset tracking
- Monitor driver usage, hardware uptime, and client experience on the ground
- Ensure smooth integration of technical components (e.g. vehicle telemetry, swap access tools) through close coordination with the tech and product teams
Logistics, Support, and Partnerships
- Work with ScootHero HQ and local teams to identify and secure strategic site locations for deployment
- Maintain high-touch relationships with local partners, stakeholders, and service providers
- Act as the eyes and ears of ScootHero in the region, feeding back learnings, risks, and improvement ideas regularly
Leadership & Problem Solving
- Take ownership and operate independently while being deeply embedded in the community
- Roll up your sleeves and handle everything from operations to troubleshooting, no task is too small
- Continuously suggest operational improvements and cost efficiencies
- Represent ScootHero values in all stakeholder engagements: Including municipalities, drivers, and partners
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Manage delivery and setup of vehicles and stations
- Support driver training and onboarding processes
- Collect and share field feedback to help improve software and processes
- Work across tools to monitor operations, log issues, and suggest enhancements
- Represent ScootHero on the ground during community engagements and partnership pilots
- 2-5+ years of experience in fast-paced operational roles, ideally in logistics, mobility, e-mobility, or hardware/software deployment
- Proven track record of managing asset-heavy projects (e.g. vehicle rollouts, tech-enabled infrastructure)
- Experience in customer-facing roles either in sales or account management, preferably in the logistics/fleet management/quick commerce industry
- Experience working directly with field teams, frontline workers, or delivery drivers
- Exceptional ownership mindset: resourceful, proactive, and highly accountable
- Comfort operating autonomously and building structure in an ambiguous environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with adeptness at working with both corporate clients and informal drivers
- Familiarity with field tools (Google Sheets, WhatsApp for coordination, data dashboards,) is a plus
- Basic financial reporting skills (P&L, expense management and basic bookkeeping)
- Based in Johannesburg with local insight into city operations and communities
- Leverage data analytics to identify trends, diagnose operational issues (e.g. from ticketing systems), and inform strategic decision-making based on this
- Bonus: experience in startups, market launches, or working with local governments/municipalities
- No strict degree requirement, but backgrounds in operations, supply chain, logistics, business, or engineering are advantageous
- We care more about your track record than your transcript: If you’ve led in high-accountability, hardware/software-heavy environments, we want to hear from you
